Quordle Strategy
Quordle Strategy explains how the exact 4-board rules and guess budget change the opening, middle game, and final candidate decisions.
The plan below is manually reviewed for this board count. It includes a measurable checkpoint, the most common failure mode, and a repeatable training method instead of reusing one generic Wordle tip list.
Use the advice during Quordle, then compare the result against another run with the same opener sequence.
Quordle is still small enough to reason about board by board. The main advantage comes from choosing early words that teach you about all four answers, then noticing when an answer on one board also acts as a useful test word for the other three.
Check your remaining guess budget
Suppose you have solved 2 of 4 boards in 5 guesses. You have 4 guesses left for 2 answers: 2 spare turns. A guess that solves no board reduces that margin by one; a correct answer preserves it. These are example counts, not player results or a recommended pace.
Spare turns = guesses left − unsolved boards. This assumes distinct answers, as in standard 128ordle. Having spare turns does not guarantee the clues are sufficient to win.
At zero spare turns, every remaining guess must solve a board. Below zero, a full clear is no longer possible, but you can keep solving to improve your result. Enable JavaScript to enter your own counts in the calculator.
Quordle strategy by phase
| Phase | Priority | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Opening | Build the field | Use two broad, non-repeating openers unless the first guess leaves an unusually constrained board. After the second guess, stop adding coverage automatically: inspect all four grids and look for an answer that can both clear one board and test a useful consonant or vowel elsewhere. |
| Middle | Control the scan | Work through the most constrained board first, but re-scan the full set after every answer. A solved word is not a wasted guess if its letters split candidates on another board. Keep a short candidate list whenever a pattern has two plausible endings. |
| Endgame | Protect the budget | Five spare guesses sounds generous, but two unresolved fifty-fifty patterns can consume it quickly. Before committing to a likely answer, ask whether a legal test word can separate both patterns at once. Protect at least one spare guess for the final ambiguous board. |
Avoid the main failure mode
The common Quordle mistake is solving the first tempting board after one opener. That answer may reveal little on the other three boards and force an extra coverage guess later, when the budget is tighter.
Use a measurable checkpoint
After two opening guesses, you should be able to name candidates for at least one board and identify which of the other boards still lacks a key vowel or consonant. If every board remains vague, the opener pair overlaps too much.

- Replay several Infinite games with the same two-word opening. Record how often the pair leaves a clean answer after guess two and how often repeated letters cause trouble; change only one opener at a time so the comparison is useful.
