128ordle Cookie and Browser Storage Policy
Last updated: October 7, 2026.
128ordle uses a small number of cookies and a larger amount of browser storage. Most of it exists so the game can remember your puzzles. This page lists what is stored, who sets it, and what you can switch off.
Browser storage means local storage and session storage: small pieces of data your browser keeps for this site. Unlike cookies, they are not sent to the server with every request.
Needed for the game to work
Game progress and settings. Your guesses, puzzle seeds, streaks, statistics, theme, layout, sound, and other preferences are saved in local storage so a puzzle is still there when you come back. The words you guess stay on your device. Counts of how far a game got, such as guesses made and boards solved, are sent to the site for the community totals.
Counting each game once. Local storage holds a random ID for this browser and a short list of which unfinished games have already been reported, so a game is not counted twice. Neither is linked to a name or email address.
Sign-in session. If you sign in, the sign-in service stores a session token in local storage to keep you signed in. Signing out removes it.
Country code. A cookie named 128ordle_country holds a two-letter country code worked out from your IP address. It lasts one day and is used to show shop prices in your local currency.
Checkout handoff. When you start a purchase, the site stores which product you picked and, for guest purchases, a one-time claim token, so your unlock can reach your account after you return from the payment page.
Your privacy choice. Your answer to the consent banner is stored in local storage under ga_consent so the banner does not ask again.
Measurement that runs for every visitor
PostHog product analytics stores an anonymous visitor ID in a cookie and in local storage so that visits can be counted and funnels measured. If you sign in, that ID is linked to your account.
DataFast traffic analytics sets first-party cookies that recognise a returning visitor and a browsing session, so the site can see which pages and referrers bring players in.
Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights count page views and measure how fast pages load. They do not set cookies.
The site also keeps a short note in session storage about how you arrived: the first page you opened, the referring site name, and any campaign tags in the link. It is cleared when you close the tab.
These tools are not controlled by the consent banner. A content blocker or your browser tracking protection will stop them, and the game plays normally with them blocked.
Optional, only if you accept
Google Analytics loads only after you choose Accept on the consent banner. Until then its script is not loaded and its storage is set to denied. If you accept, Google sets its own analytics cookies.
Ad personalization signals are also set to denied until you accept. 128ordle is not currently serving Google AdSense ads. The small sponsor links at the bottom of the page are plain links and carry no tracking scripts.
Set by other companies
Payments happen on Stripe pages. Stripe sets its own cookies there to run checkout and to detect fraud. If you use Continue with Google, Google sets cookies on its own sign-in pages. Those cookies follow the policies of those companies.
Changing your choice
You can change your Google Analytics and ad personalization choice at any time using the control on this page. It needs JavaScript, so it does not appear in a reader view or with scripts off.
You can also clear this site's data in your browser settings. That removes cookies and storage together, which signs you out and resets any progress that is not saved to an account.
