Themed Wordle Puzzles

Today's themed puzzles

How themed puzzles work

A themed puzzle plays like any other 128ordle game, with one difference: every answer comes from a single topic. In the Animals puzzle each board hides an animal, such as TIGER or SNAIL. You can still guess any five-letter word the classic game accepts, so your usual starting words work, but the answer will always fit the theme.

Themes and sizes

There are six themes: Animals, Food and drink, Nature and weather, The body, Around the home, and School. Each has between 45 and 65 possible answers and can be played on 1, 2, 4 or 8 boards with the usual 6, 7, 9 or 13 guesses. Themed lists are too short for larger board counts.

A new puzzle each day

Every theme and size gets a new puzzle at midnight UK time, the same for everyone. The link to a themed puzzle includes its date, so a link you save or share always opens that exact puzzle, even days later. Progress is saved in your browser like any other game.

Using themes in class

Because a link always opens the same puzzle, a teacher can post one link and the whole class gets the same boards. Themes work well as a warm-up for a topic: play the Body puzzle before a biology lesson, or Food and drink with English learners. No accounts are needed.

Strategy changes with a theme

Knowing the topic narrows the answers far more than a normal clue does. After one or two opening words, list the themed words that fit instead of testing more letters. On eight boards you have five spare guesses, so thinking of the animal or food that matches is usually worth more than another probe.

Scores and leaderboards

Themed puzzles count as challenge games. They add to your total games and the site totals, and they do not affect your daily streak or the daily leaderboards.
