How 128ordle works
128ordle is a free word game that takes the Wordle rules and spreads them over many boards. You type one five-letter word and it is entered on every unsolved board at once. Each board hides a different answer, so the same guess comes back with different colours on each one.
The main puzzle has 128 boards and 135 guesses. Smaller and larger versions use the same rules, from a single classic board up to 2,048 boards. Nothing needs installing and you can play without an account.
The rules in one minute
- Every guess must be a real five-letter word. It counts once and lands on every board you have not solved yet.
- Green means the letter is in the right place on that board. Yellow means the letter is in that answer but somewhere else. Grey means that answer does not contain the letter.
- Colours belong to one board only. A letter that is grey on board 3 can still be green on board 40.
- A board is solved when you type its exact answer. Solved boards stop taking guesses.
- You win by solving every board before the guesses run out. If you run out, the result records how many boards you solved.
One guess, different clues
128ordle gives you 135 guesses to solve 128 distinct five-letter answers. Each guess reaches every unsolved board, but each board scores it against its own answer. Here is a two-board example using invented practice answers, not today’s puzzle.

CRANE solves board 1 and also gives board 2 its C and R. Board 2 now reads C R A _ E, with T already known from SLATE. Solving one board can supply the missing clues on another.

CRATE finishes board 2. Board 1 stays solved and receives no more rows. We used three guesses for two answers: SLATE spent one spare turn, while each correct answer reduced both guesses left and boards left by one.
Boards, guesses and resets
Each version gives you a few more guesses than boards. Those spare guesses are the only turns you can spend on a word that solves nothing, so the table shows how many you get.

Where to start
If you have only played one board, start with Quordle. Four boards and nine guesses is enough to learn the habit that matters most: reading every board before you choose the next word.
Move up when you can finish a size most days. From 16 boards onwards you can no longer hold the whole grid in your head, so the game becomes about scanning for boards that are nearly done and leaving the rest until a later guess helps them.
On 128 boards you have seven spare guesses. Two or three opening words that share no letters are usually enough to make dozens of boards readable. After that, almost every guess should be the answer to a board.
What is free and what is paid
Every daily, weekly, fortnightly and monthly puzzle is free. So is Infinite mode, which deals a fresh puzzle whenever you want one, on any size up to 128 boards. Party games with friends, Ladder Climb and the Daily Gauntlet are free too.
The archive of past daily puzzles and the Speedrun, Hard and Blind modes need 128ordle+ or a one-off Lifetime Supporter unlock. Themes and keyboard styles in the shop only change how the game looks.
Scores, streaks and privacy
Your progress is saved in your browser, so you can close the tab and finish a puzzle later the same day. Creating an account is optional. It keeps your streak and results across devices and puts your scores on the leaderboard.
128ordle never publishes the answers to a live puzzle. The hints page gives general advice for the position you are in, and the difficulty page only shows how other players are getting on.
