How to play 9 letter Wordle
The 9-letter edition of 128ordle works like the classic game with one change: every answer and every guess has nine letters. You type one word and it is scored on every board at once. Each board hides a different answer.
The rules in a minute
- Every guess must be a nine-letter word from the game's word list.
- Press Enter to submit it. It is scored on every board you have not solved yet.
- Typing a board's exact answer solves it, and it stops receiving guesses.
- Every answer in a puzzle is different.
What the colours mean
Green means the letter is in the answer in that position. Yellow means the letter is in the answer in a different position. Grey means that copy of the letter is not in the answer.
Each board is scored on its own, so a letter can be grey on one board and green on the next. Repeated letters are counted one at a time: a guess with two Es against an answer with one E shows one coloured E and one grey E.
How many guesses you get
Guess limits are the same as the classic game. One board gives you 6 guesses, four boards give you 9, and 128 boards give you 135, which is only seven more guesses than boards.
Each guess shows you nine letters, more than a third of the alphabet. Clues arrive quickly and near-identical answers are rare. The limit is your own vocabulary: finding any valid nine-letter word that uses what you know takes longer than reading the board.
British and American spellings
Both spellings are accepted as guesses. Answers are limited to words spelled the same way in British and American English, so a puzzle never depends on which side of the Atlantic you learned to spell.
Daily and Infinite
The daily puzzle is the same for everyone and resets at midnight UK time. Infinite gives you a fresh puzzle whenever you want one. Both are free with no account.
Saves, best times and leaderboards for the 9-letter edition are kept apart from the classic five-letter game.
