Word Games for the Classroom
128ordle is a free Wordle-style word game that works well as a short classroom activity. Every guess is a real five-letter word, and the coloured feedback turns spelling patterns and letter frequency into a quick deduction puzzle.
It runs in a normal browser on Chromebooks, laptops, tablets, and interactive whiteboards, and students can play without creating accounts or entering an email address.
Start with classic Wordle or Quordle for a whole-class starter, then use Party mode when you want every student racing the same puzzle on their own device.
Three ways to use it in a lesson
- Starter: put one Quordle on the board and let the class vote on each guess.
- Race: open a Party room, share the six-character code, and let students play the same puzzle.
- Plenary: ask students which guess gave the most useful information, and why.
Lesson formats
| Format | Time | Game | How it works |
|---|---|---|---|
| Whole-class starter | 5 minutes | Wordle or Quordle | Project one puzzle and take guesses from the room. |
| Pair challenge | 10 minutes | Octordle | Pairs share a device and agree on each guess before typing it. |
| Class race | 10 to 15 minutes | Party room | Students join with a code and race the same puzzle. |
| Extension | Free time | Duotrigordle or 128 Wordle | Early finishers take on a much bigger grid. |

Common questions
- Can I use 128ordle as a classroom activity?
- Yes. Quordle or Octordle make a quick starter on a projector, and Party mode lets a whole class race the same puzzle from their own devices.
- Do students need accounts?
- No. Students can play daily, practice, and Party games without creating an account or entering an email address.
- Will it run on school Chromebooks?
- Yes. It is a normal website that runs in Chrome and other modern browsers, with nothing to install.
- What if the school filter blocks it?
- Ask your IT team to review www.128ordle.com. Filters are set by each school, and a teacher request explaining how you use the game in lessons is the quickest way to get a site reviewed.
